President’s Message - June 2016

June is here and for myself and most Olympia Music Teachers that means the end to regularly scheduled lessons and summer break for teachers and students!

Our Northwest weather beckons me outside to my flower beds and my husband and I take off on a tour of the Midwest in our motorhome and go fishing on the Washington coast! I do a  renovation of my studio floor surface and plan to reorganize the music that has piled up since September of last year. We have an Oklahoma family reunion and I attend two high school graduations for two granddaughters! I sketch thoughts and ideas for the Suite I plan to compose as we travel through the various states. I schedule summer students for hour lessons on improvisation, composition, and chord chart reading. A change is a good thing as is a break from routine. But, I know that come the last week in August I will be longing to see my students again, and I can just about be sure that I can vouch that the rest of my colleagues are doing the same. What a great job we have as teachers of music!

I have thoroughly enjoyed being President of Olympia Music Teachers Association this past year! We have a great group of supportive colleagues and friends who cooperate and work together to facilitate each other and our students! I wish to thank the Board Members with whom I worked for their positive attitude and input and their cooperation and faithfulness to OMTA. I look forward to continuing on as Past President on the OMTA Board next year.

If you are reading this President's message and are looking for an organization to belong to, to support and help your career as a private music teacher, please consider coming to our meetings, and joining us! We are members of Washington State Music Teacher's Association and Music Teacher's National Association, whose goal is to further music education and promote quality in the field of Private Music Teaching.

Outgoing President,
Jan Rowen Music, NCTM
Olympia Chapter, Washington State Music Teacher’s Association.
